In the book I'm reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, The main character Lily goes on an adventure to the city to find out whether or not her mother is really dead or not. Her father T.Ray has her convinced that she was the one who had killed her mother because even herself has memory of the incident. When Lily and T.Ray get into an argument about her being out late at night she decides it is time for her to leave so she goes to jail to help free her friend Rosaleen after she had been beaten by men because she had dumped snuff on there shoes. The only clues Lily has of hopefully finding out something about her mother is a picture of black Mary which she had seen on a honey bottle while she was in a store. That picture lead her to a honey farm in hopes of possibly learning more about her mother and what really happened to her and why she kept the picture of black Mary.
The inductive leap Lily made was when she would argued with T.Ray on the reason why her mother was dead. It gave her pieces to the puzzle whenever her and T. Ray would talk about her mother because she is curious to learn more about her. The argument helped Lily go forth with her adventure and gave her more clues as to what had really happened to her mother and whether or not she is really dead or not. I think it also helped her learn more about who her mother really was because she doesn't have very much knowledge because she only knew her mother while she was young. When Lily goes to the honey farm she is in hopes that her adventure will not end there and that she will be able to gain something from being there and figuring how the black Mary picture has a purpose with her mother.
